A Case of GM-CSF and Antibiotics Combination Therapy in Neutropenic Enterocolitis

|
Neutropenic enterocolitis which is one of the most serious gastrointestinal complications that may arise in patients receiving aggressive chemotherapy for leukemia or hematologic malignancies. The clinical symptom and signs are similar to those
of
acute
abdomen, especially acute appendicitis and most of the patients die of the sepsis with or without surgical intervention.
Recently medical advances have led to the cure rate being improved. We experienced one patient improved from typhilitis during myelodysplastic syndrome (refractory anemia with excess blasts) chemotherapy with GM-CSF and broad spectrum antibiotics
and
report it with review of literature.
